The Highest form of Flattery?

29 09 2008

or just another way to take from the underground and make profit for themselves?

So we were walking by some shops today (im not going to disclose where exactly but just know that it was in a boutique that mass produces a lot of tee’s and kicks from other brands) and we came across this tee. Look Familiar??! well other than the resemblance of a splice between our Hiro’s tee and our Made love tee, it pretty much looks like we would do something like it. The first question was didn’t we do this first? or did we just accidently use the same image hmm it looks quite similar but make your decision yourself see the pics…

[sorry pics so hazy but it was taken by my very old Camera Phone]

I’ve heard rumors of other clothing companies in the streetwear industry getting ripped off by other “Major label” brand. (ie. The hundreds and Crooks Vs. Urban O.) but for this to happen to us. Would this be the Ultimate form of flattery or just another way to take from the poor and give to the rich? you decide…

Futura’s Strategic Synchronicity

21 09 2008

Today we were able to stop by Futura’s art show Strategic Synchronicity. Dopest work ive seen in a while. You are able to see the dedication in every piece. I was sad I wasnt able to take any home due to the fact that pricing was $1500+ for some. We went on the last day, not as many people in fact there were only like 5-10 people coming in and out throughout the time we were there, but in my opinion very dope because we were able to chill and appreciate the pieces rather than being bombarded with people and photographers around you. Here’s some info and some pics….

PLEASE SCOPE OUT WWW.GRAFFHEAD.COM FOR PICS FROM VIP NIGHT…

Also Check out www.MADKRUNK.com for exclusive pics and information about the event….

Strategic Synchronicity is the first collaboration between abstract graffiti pioneer FUTURA and art showmen KRUNK.

FUTURA made his name on the New York subway when he was still a teenager, before becoming a key artist in the East Village gallery scene of the early 1980’s alongside Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

After putting on worldwide solo shows for two decades and becoming one of the most influencial figures in the urban are world, FUTURA retired from public life. Until now.

Open September 19-21, Strategic Synchronicity Displays his most considered word to date – a triumph of what he describes as ‘controlled spontaneity’.

Referencing his involvement with the intertwined music, art and media scens of the 1980’s, the show uses theatrical settings, specially-devised soundtracks and documentary footage to create the perfect backdrop to his new work.

“I consider it my best work. When I started on it, I could feel myself about to explode: it reflects my growth and evolution. I want this work considered on its merits… and in that sense I’m going right back to the beginning of the story”. FUTURA

21 09 2008

An eventful day. Always so chill when you roll with us. We first met up at the shop missing the damn Swap meet at the glasshouse peoples was talking about, oh well next time. Headed over to Rooted to meet up with the man Bert (Btw Rooted Movement in Pomona has the new stock of our fall line!). Then down to Artesia to meet the Premium Family. Premiums’ celebrating their three years doing business in this industry and i know their planning to stay around for a long while. Premium and Rooted have been family since the beginning so its only right we celebrate with each other (plus, their the only store that gives us some dranks whenever we come down). They always come out with heavy hitting, neck breaking tee’s, their steez is one amongst none. We then hit up O bar to get some great tasteful food. I’ve known the head chef there (Justine) since back in the day, like Jr. high status, so i know she’ll always come through for me with good tasting food. After Marco (our designer/Spinerdesigned) met us up for a bit, we went to the homie pats’ house (of grv) for a good old fashion house party down in Baldwin park with plenty of lumpia for all. A couple of beers and conversations later, we went back to the real hills (chino hills) for a hometown party at the homie eriks house (our salesman). Good sheit to see the old crew every now and then! much love to all!! heres’ some pics….

Strategic Synchronicity.

20 09 2008

One of my favorite and most influential graph/design artist ‘Futura’ opens the doors to his exhibition ‘Strategic Synchronicity’ this weekend. Featuring plenty of his artwork for sale, be sure to hit it up for one of the most prolific graph artist around. He’s changed along with the time but his artwork is forever legendary; graphs from the streets that influences his clothing, to designing vinyl toys and even fresh to death kicks. I definitely would not mind following in this mans footsteps….

Futura’s Point Man. [One of the pieces I own]

“With one of the most highly anticipated shows this year kicking off recently, we had the opportunity to speak one-on-one in person with a man that needs no introduction, Futura. The graffiti world legend discusses the meaning behind “Strategic Synchronicity”, how he approached this show as a single entity rather the usual group show setting and importantly, how graffiti and its increased exposure has affected its direction. Organized by KRUNK, the public viewing begins on Friday, September 19th in Los Angeles. In the near future, look for a further show to take place in London.”

“4 killed in SC plane crash; drummer, DJ injured

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Hours after performing for thousands of South Carolina college students, former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity DJ AM were critically injured in a fiery Learjet crash that killed four people, authorities said Saturday.

Officials said the plane carrying six people was departing shortly before midnight Friday when air traffic controllers reporting seeing sparks. The plane hurtled off the end of a runway and crashed through antennas and a fence. It came to rest on an embankment across a five-lane highway and was engulfed in flames, said Debbie Hersman, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board.

Barker and DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, were in critical condition at a burn center in Augusta, Ga., about 75 miles southwest of Columbia, hospital spokeswoman Beth Frits said.

Two other passengers — Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, Calif., and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles — died, as did pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, according to the county coroner. Baker was an assistant to Barker and Still was a security guard for the musician.

Barker and Goldstein had performed together under the name TRVSDJ-AM at a free concert in Columbia on Friday night. Event sponsor T-Mobile said their hourlong set ended at about 7:15 p.m.

The show, which included performances by former Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrell and singer Gavin DeGraw, drew 10,000 people into the streets of Five Points, the neighborhood near the University of South Carolina, Coble said.

Peter Kastis, Farrell’s manager, said he and Farrell didn’t find out about the crash until they arrived at the airport Saturday morning to find it closed.

“I just hugged them hello less than 24 hours ago. I wish I could hug them now,” Kastis said.

One concertgoer said TRVSDJ-AM’s performance was unique and different.

“It was literally one of the best shows I’ve ever seen,” said Brett Flashnick, a freelance photographer who works for The Associated Press and attended the concert for a local newspaper…..”
